For the first time in the city, residents and private players have pitched in to cut down on sewage entering lakes. Monday signalled the start of work on a 720-kilolitre sewage treatment plant (STP) at one of the inlets of Kundalahalli lake, which occupies over 30 acres near Whitefield. The Rs. 1.2-crore project took one year in the making and became a reality after residents and a non-governmental organisation turned to private companies to fund the sewage plant.
