In the end, it turned out to be a return of the BJP and an embarrassment for the ruling Congress and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The BJP won 100 of the 198 seats, a clear majority, but down from 112 in 2010, in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Council while the Congress improved its tally from 64 to 76. Adding insult to injury, BJP leaders claimed that this was the first time in 30 years in the State that a ruling party was defeated in the civic polls.
