In 2007, the Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike became Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Seven city municipal corporations (CMCs), one taluk municipal corporation (TMC) and 110 villages were merged with the erstwhile city corporation to form the behemoth thereby expanding coverage to three times the area and twice the population. Although politicians ensured adequate representation in the City Council by redrawing the political map of the City, no such action was taken on the administrative side to improve governance and accountability.
